Live Reporting Follow-Up

8:58 pm on April 3rd, 2008 by Kelly Sutton

Hot on the heels of yesterday’s post about outfitting a school newspaper (or any organization really) with the capability to broadcast video live from anywhere, it dawned on me: Someone could do the same thing for 1/10th the price. The caveat: it wouldn’t be truly live.

The solution will be good for most people, though. It comes in the form of the exploding Flip Video camera. The picture explains the camera better than I ever could.

Flip Video Camera

And these things are a steal. The most expensive one which allows for 60 minutes of recording time only costs $180. I got one myself and I’m loving it.

Get an unlocked Nokia N73 or N71 off of CL or eBay (or, if money’s no object, an N95 8GB), and set up a Qik account. That will allow you to broadcast from pretty much anywhere at any time with the result being an embeddable video for later.

Good seeing you at LMU. Like the blog.
