I couldn't agree with you more about the need to keep up in technology. I am virtually certain that things I have taught freshmen in the past were obsolete by the time they were seniors. This is why I have moved to a more "principle" based approach to education. What are the core principles in a discipline that should transcend the technology? How should we translate those core principles using modern technology? These are the questions that I think should inform the curriculum of virtually any discipline.

If you are interested in a case study on how wikis can get used in class and how effective they can truly be please see my paper on Scribd: http://www.scribd.com/doc/2340879/A-Wiki-Is-Like-A-Room

Great post, and as a Radio-TV-Film major, I can see some of where you're coming from. I think it's very important to learn all aspects in this case, learn how to shoot on 35mm, video, and in digital, because they're all important and can help students learn and experience different ways of doing things. At some point, 35mm may be phased out, but it's still an aspect of film that is useful.
