Get Your Summer Music Festival On
It’s one thing to drink yourself to death during the summer. It’s more worthwhile to set aside some of that money that would be spent on booze and attend a music festival near you. Tickets for these festivals are going on sale soon, if they aren’t already.
My first large-scale festival was Sasquatch! during Memorial Day Weekend last year. Talk about a solid three days and an earth-shattering line-up. Some of the highlights were (in no particular order):
- Rogue Wave
- Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
- Architecture in Helsinki
- Band of Horses
- Sufjan Stevens
- Death Cab
- The Flaming Lips
- Ben Harper
- Queens of the Stone Age
- TV on the Radio
- The Shins
- Iron & Wine
- The Decemberists
- The Arctic Monkeys and
- We Are Scientists
All that for $180. Aside from the speeding ticket on the way home, it was probably one of the best use of that money possible.
If you need someone to explain to you why a music festival is awesome, you need to seriously rethink your life. Something about 25,000 people all in one place having a good time cannot be paralleled.
This year, I’ll be heading out to Coachella for their Saturday line-up. If you didn’t get the memo, Rage Against the Machine is re-uniting for one more show on the Sunday of Coachella. Sadly, I won’t be seeing them; the single tickets sold out in one second.
Instead, I’m looking forward to:
- The Arcade Fire
- Red Hot Chili Peppers
- LCD Soundsystem
- The New Pornographers
- Hot Chip
- Pharoahe Monch
- The Good, The Bad and the Queen
- Andrew Bird
- Fields and
to name a few. The weekend will be a blast, minus the fact that it’s the weekend before finals. Oh well.
So get looking for some festival tickets and plane tickets to satisfy your musical soul this summer. Some of the biggest festivals include:
Sorry for all the list craziness. If we’ve forgotten any festivals, let us know in a comment.
(Also, if any loyal reader is flying out for Coachella and needs a place to stay, let me know. I could accommodate you for the weekend.)
