I looked up info on the tax credit, and I don't think she has it quite right – the tax credit can be used to cover tuition, fees, and required course materials (i.e. textbooks and the like), but does not cover computers. They did change 529 savings accounts to allow them to be used for all educational expenses, including computers, but the tax credit doesn't cover them.
