Mini Pumpkins Make Cheap, Creative Decorations
I love these little pumpkins during October. They’re so cute and little and adorable. I have several of them scattered around my apartment accompanied with some festive looking gourds to show my fall pride. For college students, it can be hard to come up with inexpensive ways to decorate your dorm or apartment. However, if you scrounge up a few pumpkins, you can use these ideas to make your place feel a little bit more like home.
If you’re looking for a way to incorporate your mini pumpkins into your October decorations but want them to do more than just sit there, turn them into candle holders! If you just take a carving knife to cut out the tops of the pumpkin to fit your favorite candle, you’ve got a homemade pumpkin candle holder. Pumpkin Pie Potpourri
For about two weeks, I’ve been looking for a way to get my apartment to smell like pumpkin pie. The smell reminds me of home and makes this lonely stretch in the semester seem not as bad. Martha Stewart’s website gives a great homemade recipe for making pumpkin pie potpourri. It’s super easy. All you do is cut off the pumpkin’s top and scrape out the awesome inside stuff. Carve little holes into the pumpkin. Rub cinnamon or pumpkin pie spices onto the lid of your pumpkin. Then place a lighted tealight candle inside. How easy and delightful.
If you and your friends need a well-deserved break from midterms, invite them over for soup in a pumpkin! Scrape out the innards and clean them and then use them as festive soup bowls for your favorite soup. Additionally, you can also bake the pumpkins ahead of time to create delicious edible soup bowls. Check out how here.
