On this Saturday’s App of the Week, we’re going mobile and looking at an iPhone app called Key Ring Rewards Cards. If you find yourself with a wallet stuffed to the gills with various rewards cards to a myriad of different retailers, download Key Ring Rewards Cards today! It lets you import all those rewards cards via a barcode scanner, and scan them directly from your smartphone so you can stop carrying around all those cards everywhere.

Platform Availability: Key Ring is available on essentially every platform. iOS 3.1.2 and up, Android 1.6 and up, Windows Phone 7, and Blackberry.

Cost: Like so many of the best things in life, Key Ring is absolutely free! Find your platform’s download link here.

What it is: Key Ring Rewards Cards is a universal rewards card app. Stop carrying around all your rewards cards in your wallet. Instead, scan them into Key Ring, and pull up the card whenever necessary at your favorite retailers!

What it Does: Scan your cards and Key Ring will search its database to figure out your card’s appropriate retailer. If your card isn’t scanning or doesn’t have a barcode, you can enter the card’s information manually as well. Whenever you need to use your card, just pull up the appropriate card your list and have the cashier scan it. It’s that easy!

Features: Offers/Coupons – Key Ring brings up both exclusive special offers and printable web coupons for retailers you have cards with. For printable coupons, Key Ring even features the ability to send them to your email so you can more easily print them out!

Grocery Coupons- Key Ring has partnered with 27 plus grocery chains and supports digital grocery coupon clipping. It’s as easy as selecting the coupons you want and choosing save to card. Then, when the cashier scans your card when you checkout, the coupons are automatically applied to your purchase!

Notes – Need to keep a shopping list? Do it within Key Ring for a great one-app solution the next time you need to pick up everything on a trip to the grocery store.

Store Locator – If you’re in a neighborhood you’ve never been in before, use Key Ring to easily find the closest location without having to go the company’s website in your browser (although Key Ring allows you to go the retailer’s website as well).

Join Programs – Key Ring can use your current location to determine the retailers closest to you with rewards/membership programs you can join so you don’t have to deal with the hassle of filling out paperwork.

Sync – Once you create an account on the Key Ring website, you can sync the same account information across multiple devices. If you ever have to update your phone or lose it, it’s as easy as reinstalling the app and syncing with your account to recover your entire list of rewards cards.

The Competition: CardStar – Free – iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7, and Blackberry

CardMobili – Free – iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7, and Blackberry

Honestly, these apps are all very similar and are essentially the same when it comes to features. The thing that really differentiates them is in their design and user interface. I think Key Ring stands out with its unique and intuitive design that’s different from typical smartphone apps with a collection of different sections in static bar at the bottom of the app. However, try them all out for yourself and see which one you like best!

Summary: While it was previously possible to scan all your rewards/membership cards and consolidate them onto one physical card (like in this article from Lifehacker), Key Ring simplifies that process and tacks on great features like sync, special offers/coupons, and a store locator. The competition is certainly fierce, but its unique and pleasant design makes it my choice for the best rewards/membership card management app out there.
