When my mom used to cook me grilled cheese sandwiches, she’d often burn them. Not wanting to upset her, I’d pray that the black death wouldn’t consume me in the night as I devoured the cheese-filled sandwich with a twisted smile upon my face.

Here’s a tip I wanted to share with anyone struggling with the same misfortunes that come with cooking a simple grilled cheese sandwich.

When you drop that assembly of buttered bread and cheese onto the hot pan, throw a little chunk of butter on the side of the pan, beside the sandwich.

Once the butter browns after melting, it’s time to flip that sucker. You’ll wind up with a perfectly golden-brown (and attractive) grilled cheese sandwich. Repeat the butter trick as you finish off the other side of the sandwich for optimal results.
