5 Fit Apps to Help Shed the Winter Weight
Somewhere near the end of winter, the majority of college students seem to notice they’ve put on a few more pounds than we had thought over the winter months. Seeing this, we head out to the fitness center to try and drop the pounds before spring break. Staying motivated to lose the weight can be tough, that’s why I’ve compiled some of my favorite apps for hitting the gym, and staying in shape.
Description: JEFIT is one of my personal favorite apps for going to the gym. You set up a free profile with your height, weight and date of birth and then you can schedule your days of the week, keep track of weight/ reps and more! The best part about it (aside from being free) is the massive list of exercises available for every body part, this way you can continually switch up your workouts when you get tired of doing the same exercises each week.
Description: Lose It is a great app for those looking to keep track of the food they eat as well as exercises throughout their weight loss process. Once again you set up a profile, enter your info and your target weight and Lose It will figure out a realistic date for your target goal. By entering what you eat, as well as what exercises you perform, you can reach your goal faster, earn badges and even compete in monthly challenges to increase your healthy lifestyle.
Description: Map My Run is perfect for runners who like to keep track of their runs, compete and share with friends. As with the previous apps, you can also keep track fo what you eat, however what I really find great about this app is its simplicity, within 30 seconds of set up you can start your recorded run and the app will not only keep track of how far you go, sync with your music but also remember the routes you have gone before or see what routes your friends take. If you’re a serious runner or biker, you can also purchase 3rd party accessories to get even more results (Heart Monitor, Stride Rate, Bike Speed etc.)
Description: If you’re like me, anywhere from 30 seconds to two minutes into your run you’re immediately bored and wishing that your run was over. That’s where Zombies, Run comes in. This app isn’t your normal run tracker, it’s a full-fledged game in which the more you run and the faster you run the better off you are against a zombie hoard chasing you through the world. This is a great app to take your mind off your run as it puts you in a story and incorporates your own music to give a good twist to a boring run.
Description: The college years have never been known to be full of healthy eating choices: Pizza for breakfast lunch and dinner, maybe throw dollar menu items in there and top it off with unlimited ice cream from the café and you have yourself a perfect recipe for disaster. “Cook This Not That” and “Eat This Not That” are two awesomely helpful apps to guide you through life on your own to help make your decisions easier and healthier when going out to eat or cooking at home, from simple substitutes to complete food swaps, these two apps can help you cut out the unnecessary fatty foods from your diet without having to sacrifice eating things that still taste good.
