Top 10 Computer Science Universities in the World
If you’re in college, there’s a good chance you’ve considered a degree in computer science or computer engineering as you try to pin down exactly what major to choose, and for good reason. As we recently reported, majors that deal largely in these fields are in top demand, and the need for more is increasing with every year. So which colleges and universities are the best bet for getting the most out of a degree in computer technology?
The Academic Ranking Of World Universities, which originally began as an index of Chinese universities but has since grown to become one of the most well-respected college ranking organizations in the world, annually collates data on over 1,000 higher education institutions from around the world to determine a list of the top 500 universities in the world, as well as smaller, targeted lists of the top 200 schools in particular academic areas.
As the growth of computer science continues unimpeded, perhaps the most important of these lists is the Academic Ranking’s annual collection of which universities have the strongest and most useful computer science programs on the planet. The researchers explain how they rank each of these schools:
[I]nstitutions are ranked according to their academic or research performance in each broad subject field. Ranking indicators include alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, Highly Cited Researchers, articles indexed in Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). Two new indicators were introduced, one is the percentage of articles published in the top 20 percent journals of each field, and the other is the computer science research expenditure.
