Trade in Your Tech for the Outdoors at an Adult Summer Camp
If you’re looking to escape from the hyperconnected world this summer, you may want to consider a tech-free weekend getaway.
Digital Detox, a group that runs retreats for those exhausted by technology, is offering 200 lucky individuals an opportunity to spend a fun, activity-filled weekend at a California summer camp — sans the iPhone.
The retreat, called Camp Grounded, asks its campers to trade their “computer, cell phone, Instagrams, clocks, schedules and work-jargon for an off-the-grid weekend of pure unadulterated fun.”
Campers will be taken to Camp Navarro, an old Boy Scouts camp in Northern California, where they’ll stay in cabins and participate in typical camp activities such as archery and capture the flag, while enjoying a healthy staple campfire-roasted marshmallows. It’s just too bad you won’t be able to test charging your smartphone with fire.
Men and women will be separated into different parts of the camp, but couples are encouraged to sneak out in true summer camp fashion.
The four-day adult summer camp retreat will set you back $305, but includes all meals and accommodations. You simply have to get yourself to Camp Navarro before the fun starts June 14-17.
The getaway is one of the least expensive and exclusive options Digital Detox offers the tech-addicted crowd. An upcoming retreat to Cambodia would set you back a minimum of $1000 before travel expenses.
If you’d like to enjoy a nostalgic childhood experience with a group of fellow tech worshipers, you’d better act fast because Camp Grounded is down to its last 25 spots.
While some look to be grounded away from technology at a summer camp, others will go “ungrounded” in order to hack together ways to get technology into the hands of those who need it the most.
