Hack College's School Directory Work Smarter, Not Harder

The Naples center opened its doors August 28,1974, offering 13 programs to 330 students. The school was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and School (SACS) in December of 1978. In the summer of 1988, the school's name was changed to "James Lorenzo Walker Vocational Technical Center". Mr. Walker, a former legislator, was instrumental in obtaining the original funding to open the school.The school's name was later changed to the Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology. In 2006, the Lorenzo Walker Technical High School was established on the same campus, with 150 freshmen enrolled. In each of the following 3 years 150 new freshmen were added, for a final enrollment of 600 students, and its first graduating class, reached in 2009 - 2010. Also in 2006, planning began for a major construction and renovation project, which, when complete, would expand the space available to current programs; would allow for increased enrollment in some programs; would allow the addition of new programs; and would house the full high school program. Over three years, this Reinvention project has included a phase-in of construction work, and is scheduled for full completion in April 2010. The completed project includes more than 200,000 square feet of new or renovated space; state-of-the-art equipment in all programs; a fully wireless-accessible environment; a full media center and computer lab; improved storefront spaces for programs which serve the public; and a 400-seat dining facility for use by students and staff, and available to the public for catering or meeting functions.
