Quick Tip: Keep a Spare Car Key in Your Wallet
There’s nothing worse than the moment you realize you’ve locked yourself out of your car by leaving your keys inside. A moment where you can do nothing but quietly reflect on your forgetfulness or scream obscenities at your car window.
Personally, I prefer not to draw attention to my embarrassing mistakes, so I’d quietly walk off and simply have my subconscious scream obscenities at me.
And that’s exactly what I did in September of last year, as I was 200 miles from home in a cramped food plaza near a downtown college campus.
That is, until I realized I had my spare key in my wallet. I had placed it in a pocket months prior when I was constantly taking my car to the shop and needed quick access to it.
I felt an incredible sense of relief in that moment, knowing that the key in my wallet was saving me the time, frustration, and money it would take to get a locksmith.
So, find someplace nice and secure in your wallet to put a spare key. You could even tape it to the back of your driver’s license.
You’ll thank me if you should ever find yourself staring at your keys through your car window.
