Give Chrome a Google Now-Inspired New Tab Page
A new Chrome extension brings additional information and functionality to the browser’s standard new tab page, giving it a fresh, yet familiar new look .
New Tab Page for Chrome is a redesign of Google’s simple “New Tab” page layout, which gives users a dedicated search bar with a voice search option, as well as news and weather widgets.
The design is inspired by Google Now, the company’s mobile assistant for Android, introduced in version 4.1 (Jelly Bean). While lacking the advanced capabilities of Google Now, New Tab Page is a fast and easy alternative to the bland default new tab layout.
Unfortunately, New Tab Page cannot be reorganized or customized in any way beyond allowing the weather app to use your current location.
However, if you’re looking to get more out of your new tab experience, New Tab Page is one of the best options available. That is, until Google rolls out an official version of Google Now for Chrome, something we may see after its code was found in the browser’s development version.
Previously, we’ve covered New Tab Redirect, which gives users the ability to redirect the new tab to a specific website, Chrome page, or local HTML page.
