Job Hunting Meets Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence is transforming the job board space. Increasingly, AI is being used to process online applications and categorize applicants into priority rankings.
One example of how the process of applying for jobs is changing can be seen in innovations recently put into place on the icrunchdata job posting platform. The company uses AI to connect employers and job seekers in the high-demand data science niche.
icrunchdata leverages artificial intelligence for talent acquisition. It launched its new job posting platform last month.
For the first time, employers and job seekers can take advantage of real-time job matching technology to post and find the best jobs in data science, analytics, tech and everything big data.
icrunchdata’s enhanced platform makes use of the latest AI technologies to solve an urgent need for securing high-quality data and tech talent. The platform works smartly in distinct ways.
How It Works
Job seekers create a profile. AI connects them instantly with relevant job postings based on skill set, experience and preferences.
This approach eliminates the need for tedious keyword searching and browsing through hundreds of undesirable postings. AI matches job seekers automatically to the jobs they want and for which they are qualified. Thus, job seekers spend less time searching and more time applying.
Jobs posted by employers are optimized and distributed by AI based on real-time performance monitoring on a network of more than 1,000 targeted, niche sites. This performance-based distribution produces higher rankings on search engines and paid job sites. As a result, there’s a 200% average increase in qualified responses.
I interviewed icrunchdata’s CEO Ron Emery about how AI is changing the job application market and what you need to know to benefit from this new system.
Different Response Needed
Job seekers will have to use AI-powered job boards differently than they use conventional job boards. The AI platform uses real-time AI technology to match job seekers to jobs based on their skills and qualifications. It also relies on their preferences and numerous other attributes contained within their profiles.
So, you will have to think carefully about how to provide more complete and thoughtful profiles. “The more detailed you make your profile, the better the matching technology will work,” said Emery.
“It’s rather intuitive and refreshing. Historically, job seekers would have to manually search endless jobs, but our system gives you the short list,” he said. “In addition, employers are more attentive to the applications on the platform due to the same matching technology working unilaterally.”
Emery is sure that job seekers will love this new approach. The AI system focuses less around search and more around the “you” factor.
“Our AI system gets to know you and makes job match recommendations and ranks them. It’s quite impressive to experience,” said Emery.
Applicants may need to adjust their expectations. They will not be given thousands of jobs to choose from.
“But that’s due to the fact that our AI has already eliminated them and provided the short list based on how well it has learned who you are,” he explained.
Traditional Job Search is Broken
The traditional approach to searching for jobs has erroneously become about massive aggregation rather than quality, according to Emery. Most job boards rely on low quality volume.
“This appeals to the ego, but it is fleeting and ineffective,” he said.
With these legacy platforms, the user bail-out has a staggering rate of 80 to 85%. “With icrunchdata’s new AI platform, the heavy lifting is done for you, so you can narrow your efforts on the short list of jobs that are a mutual match,” he explained.
Slow Adoption Curve
Technology brings change slowly to all industries. Legacy systems and legacy thinking will delay the adoption of innovation regarding artificial intelligence, Emery believes.
“We’re very proud to be leading the way with our approach and technology. The job search industry is long overdue for re-invention. We are incredibly excited to offer such a lightweight product experience and really cool way to find jobs in the data science and technology space,” he said.
AI is ahead of the curve, which contributes to an expected slow growth of AI in the job application market.
“This technology is new and exclusive, so that metric doesn’t exist yet. I think more-so the quality of applications on our platform will increase. Employers will love this, too,” he noted.
Online Only To Start
AI interaction with job applications is a one-way only process in its initial stage. AI is entirely dependent upon online data. User resumes and profile data is parsed and understood by the AI coding.
Applications are processed in unique ways dependent upon each employer’s settings and hiring procedures.
“However, applications are more carefully reviewed by employers, in my opinion. There’s an elevated expectation, perhaps,” said Emery.
With that in mind, what steps should students take to maximize their success when filling in applications processed by AI?
Fill out your profile thoughtfully and completely. Preferences, skills and qualifications are learned by the system, explained Emery.
You can add skills that you do not see listed, and in general, you can really build out your profile in creative ways. Users can also upload several versions of their resume, which is a benefit, too.
“Overall, students should dive in and create a free profile. Our system also has something called ‘College Boost,’ which allows employers to opt-in to segments that reach college talent,” he suggested.
